La Vie en Rose: how to pipe rose shaped frosting

After tasting so many bakery baked red velvets and people's rave about them, I decided to try to bake my own.  This is my first time baking with artificial color, but this is definitely a testimony of my friend's, Sarah's recipe!  To make the cupcakes, simply follow her recipe for red velvet cupcakes and vanilla cream cheese frosting. I am very thrilled that my frostings finally has the perfect texture and sweetness, also the thickness allowed me to pipe beautiful frosting! The coloring of the red velvet is more of the vintage red, as opposed to the dark bloody red you find in bakery red velvets (I used 2 tbsp), but they taste really moist and soft. Maybe next time I will try to add more red coloring and less cocoa powder to adjust.

So in this post, I will teach how to pipe beautiful rose frostings. Many years back, I came across Bake it Pretty that offers affordable bake decorating kits. I purchased their cupcake kit which includes 5 giant tips and 1 reusable piping bag. For piping rose shaped frosting, use the "Super Star Tip" (see picture).

Steps:
1. secure the tip, insert frosting 1/2-2/3 full into the piping bag
2. hold bag vertically, start piping from the centre of the cupcake
3. Squeeze the frosting out slowly as you swirl the tip outwards in a circular motion. The frosting will nicely lay out a rose pattern
4. end the piping nicely on the edge of the cake

Happy Frosting!
